Windows Vista: A Closer Look

I have now been using vista for about two months and I have come to like many of the subtler changes in Windows Vista. Originally I posted a scathing first impression criticizing it, but I have come to use it and come to appreciate many of the changes that were made between XP and Vista. I am going to post a short series of articles focusing on what I like about vista; improvements and features that are important to users when making the buy/upgrade decision. Here is the itinerary:

  • Focus on Search - A closer look at Vista's new indexing service
  • Focus on Usability - Microsoft many many subtle, usability changes to the UI
  • Focus on Aero - Windows shiny new UI
  • Focus on Security - Vista's new User Access Control

All of these articles are meant to be from a user's perspective, so I am not planning on getting into technical details about the inner workings (unless otherwise warranted).

The problem with Vista is definitely it's demand on resources - I guess it was made with better computer specs in the future in mind or something, but with the normal specs of most computers nowadays - say 1.0 ram and 160 hard drive, it is a slow operating system - and that's a problem

I have it on a machine that has identicle specs to another machine that has XP Pro and the XP Pro machine runs circles around it, no comparison - the Vista machine is just too slow and cumberson for doing serious work in my opinion
