My First Triathlon

My company, TrueLocal, sponsored a triathlon this past weekend and encouraged employees to participate (by means of a free trip to Mexico!). I have never been a super fast cyclist but I have done distance so I decided to enter. I am not a small guy and I have never raced previously so I was happy with my average (27.2km/h).

I had a great time and I will definitely participate in more relay triathlons in the future. I think I may splurge on clipless pedals and a set of tri-bars first, though, in a shameless attempt to better my speed with gadgets.

My First Century Ride

I completed my first century ride. On September 21, 2005 I biked 220.6 km from Guelph to Thamesville. Being my luck or some unearthly hazing ritual, a thunderstorm was up and coming so I had to fight a stiff headwind all the way to London, adding a couple extra hours onto the total trip time. In London the thunderstorm hit and I was forced to shelter in a coffee shop for 5 hours while the severe part of the storm passed; I didn't want to continue in the middle of a lightening storm. Once it had passed I rode the second half of the trip in the rain and in the dark.

It was a rough ride and although I had a sore ass the next day, it was a great experience.

DIY Superbright led bike headlights

These lights were made almost two years ago, but I thought I would share them with the DIY community anyways. They are really, really bright. They have been given various names such as "The Face of God" lights etc; I also find that cars give me an unusually large amount of respect on the road at night when running with these lights (and two taillights purchased from http://www.mec.ca set in non-flash mode), probably because they are wondering what the heck I am. I have never been given so much space on the road as when I am running at night with these lights on.
